Neighborhood Tree Planting Day, February 20, 2010

A great day to plant trees!

It was raining the night before Bungalow Haven Neighborhood Association had planned to team up with a half dozen Santa Barbara City Parks and Recreation Department workers to plant nearly 50 trees in a few blocks around the Bungalow "hood".

The call came early from Randy to Leslee Sipress who was coordinating the project: it's a great day to plant trees! And it was.

Some 20 neighbors gathered with their shovels and gloves to meet up with the Parks & Recreation workers, headed up by Randy Fritz, Tim Downey and George Jimenez, to learn how to plant properly. All the trees were planted, staked and mulched in less than three hours.

One neighbor who was watching his son and couldn't dig with us, grabbed snacks and drinks from Leslee's porch and brought it around on his bike, son in tow.

The trees were purchased through the generosity of Santa Barbara Beautiful and is a fitting example of what a neighborhood should be about. Everyone had a good time and were honored to contribute to Santa Barbara's status as Tree City USA!

Respectfully submitted by Leslee Sipress, Chair of Santa Barbara Bungalow Haven.
